Pricing Strategy Executive Education – Faculty

This course is based on the successful module offered as part of the MBA Program at Lancaster University Management School. In addition to Dr Joern Meissner, who is delivering this module at LUMS, we are glad to announce that we could win Jon Manning as an additional instructor for this program. His practical expertise, most notably as Pricing Officer for the well-known Internet cafe venture of Stelios Haji-Ioannou’s EasyGroup, helps strengthen the practical aspect of our offering. Here are short biographical sketches of the instructors involved in the delivery of this program:

Prof Dr Joern Meissner is a leading researcher on Pricing Strategy in the Department of Management Science at Lancaster University Management School (LUMS), according to government ratings, the highest rated school in terms of research output in the UK, a distinction it shares with London Business School. He received his PhD in Management Science from Columbia Business School in New York and holds a Graduate Business Degree from the University of Hamburg in Germany. His work has appeared in such prestigious journals as Operations Research and Manufacturing & Service Operations Management (MSOM). He recently joined the Editorial board of the International Journal of Revenue Management. A gifted teacher, he originated both the highly popular MBA electives in Revenue Management, Supply Chain Management and Advanced Decision Models at LUMS. Joern also teaches the MBA Core Course in Operations Management. He and his academic research team advise British Airways, British Telecom, Pernod-Ricard, Promethean and many other firms on their strategic pricing and sourcing decisions.

JON MANNING brings with him over 15 years of experience in the area of strategic pricing. He has been involved in the pricing of a wide variety of products and services in numerous countries and industries. Among the positions he has held was that of the Pricing Officer for the EasyGroup’s high-profile Internet Café venture. Jon holds a Bachelor of Business degree and two graduate degrees in Management related subjects from Australia and the UK. He is also the founder and principal consultant of Sans Prix Pty Ltd, an independent Strategic Pricing Consultancy based in Australia. Jon is a frequent speaker at pricing conferences and workshops. He has authored several articles that have appeared in publications such as the Journal and Revenue and Pricing Management and the Journal of Professional Pricing.

MALCOLM KIRKUP has enjoyed a career lasting over 20 years encompassing teaching, research and program management positions. He is a well-known expert on consumer choice, retail marketing and retail strategy and has co-authored two case texts, and published a wide range of academic journal articles and conference papers. He has extensive teaching experience with a focus on management education and, among others, has taught in Oxford University’s Said School of Business Executive Education Program. In recent years he held the position of MBA Director at the fast-rising program at Lancaster University Management School. In the beginning of 2007 he joined the University of Birmingham to develop three new degree programs focusing on retail and marketing.

DR ARNE STRAUSS is a post doc at Lancaster University Management School in Management Science with focus on Revenue Management. He holds a Master’s degree in mathematics from Virginia Tech, USA, as well as a diploma in mathematics and business administration from the University of Trier, Germany. The results of his diploma thesis on numerical methods in option pricing have been submitted for publication in the journal Applied Numerical Mathematics. His research is concerned with advancing current revenue management models in the service industries.
