This course is based on the successful module offered as part of the MBA Programme at Lancaster University Management School. In addition to Dr Joern Meissner and Arne Strauss, who are involved in delivering this module at LUMS, we are glad to announce that we could win Jon Manning as an additional instructor for this programme. His practical expertise, most notably as Pricing Officer for the well-known internet cafe venture of Stelios Haji-Ioannou’s EasyGroup, helps strengthen the practical aspect of our offering. Here are short biographical sketches of the instructors involved in the delivery of this programme:

Prof Dr Joern Meissner is a leading researcher on Pricing Strategy in the Department of Management Science at Lancaster University Management School (LUMS), according to government ratings, the highest rated school in terms of research output in the UK, a distinction it shares with London Business School. He received his PhD in Management Science from Columbia Business School in New York and holds a Graduate Business Degree from the University of Hamburg in Germany. His work has appeared in such prestigious journals as Operations Research and Manufacturing & Service Operations Management (MSOM). He recently joined the Editorial board of the UK-based Journal of Revenue and Pricing Management. A gifted teacher, he originated both the highly popular MBA electives in Revenue Management and Supply Chain Management at LUMS. He has supervised many consulting projects with MBA students for companies such as SAP, Pernod-Ricard and Promethean. He and his academic research team advise British Airways and British Telecom on their strategic pricing decisions.

JON MANNING brings with him over 15 years of experience in the area of strategic pricing. He has been involved in the pricing of a wide variety of products and services in numerous countries and industries. Among the positions he has held was that of the Pricing Officer for the EasyGroup’s high-profile Internet café venture. Jon holds a Bachelor of Business degree and two graduate degrees in Management related subjects from Australia and the UK. He is also the founder and principal consultant of Sans Prix Pty Ltd, an independent Strategic Pricing Consultancy based in Australia. Jon is a frequent speaker at pricing conferences and workshops. He has authored several articles that have appeared in publications such as the Journal and Revenue and Pricing Management and the Journal of Professional Pricing.

MALCOLM KIRKUP has been involved in commercial marketing, teaching, consultancy and executive management education for 25 years. He is an expert on marketing, consumer choice and retail strategy with two co-authored case texts and numerous published papers to his credit. He has extensive teaching experience with a focus on management education, having lectured at Cranfield, Oxford and many other institutions worldwide. As Director of the MBA at Lancaster University Management School he guided the MBA to 28th ranked in the world (Financial Times). He now heads the development of new advanced postgraduate programmes in Strategic Marketing and Consulting at the University of Birmingham.

ARNE STRAUSS is a doctoral candidate at Lancaster University Management School in Management Science with focus on Revenue Management. He holds a Master’s degree in mathematics from Virginia Tech, USA, as well as a diploma in mathematics and business administration from the University of Trier, Germany. The results of his diploma thesis on numerical methods in option pricing have been submitted for publication in the journal Applied Numerical Mathematics. His research is concerned with advancing current revenue management models in the service industries
